ACT 1 - HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL TURBO ROUND

For those of you who are not yet in the know, every 5th Day of any Main Round, there is a super-charged 48 hour/2 Day duration competition round start up. These rounds are called Turbo Rounds.

Typically, they provide a round-within-a-round, where all your turns are generated [x] 10, compared to the main round. There are prizes for every tier; the rules vary from round to round, so players and teams are constantly challenged to find new ways to get ahead.




So - As we know it, Turbo Rounds are very fast paced and can get competitive for ranks. How does one succeed in such frenzy? What are the key ingredients to consistently performing successfully? Does such methodology even exist?

Here to share with you some of the basics today, our blogger provides some great tried and tested knowledge to help those of you who are not in the know.



For your family to succeed in Turbo Rounds, you must successfully hide from your enemies, leave them guessing. This will benefit your family, especially if you are challenging, because then nobody knows how much firepower and money you have.


1. NAME REVEAL

Only tell 1 or 2 members of your family what your turbo name is.

This should be your Boss or Consigliere. The less people know who you are, the easier it is to narrow leaks to other teams.


2. YOUR ACTIVITY

Leave a couple hours of activity (“last seen” on your profile!) between your profiles in main and turbo rounds.

Mafiosos, I know it is tempting to switch round to round so you can get back-to-back action, but your enemies will spot you quickly if they see you go inactive in one round and active in another.

It does not take too many looks to figure out it is you.



3. NAMING YOURSELF

Use completely off the wall names that are uninteresting and do not seem like a name you would normally choose.

What does this mean? Other players that have played with you or have seen you play know what type of usernames you would use based on your personality and what they know about you.

4. FAMILIES


Do NOT join any families before the end of the round unless absolutely needed.

Sometimes it is better to NOT join a family because other family members may not be as inconspicuous as you. Alternatively, though this may be riskier, you could join a random family in hopes that they do not stir trouble for you and your build until you are ready to join your real family at EOR.






5. BUILDING

a. Login to the new turbo round as soon as it starts and build.
Whatever it is you are building, build it immediately! It is good to have an early start on builds because you will end up using slightly more generated turns than other players by the end of the round. Any boost in turns helps.

b.
Save your turbo reserves.
Unless you can compensate for using your reserves early on to the round, it is best to save them. Killers could use it to build over their targets and claim their kill points while collectors could use it to build more ops early on or use it to collect more at the end of the round.

c.
Do NOT immediately start off with a huge build with added credits.
It never works. Many players will see juicy defensive units and operatives to be taken. Players who like to cause chaos will immediately take the build out within hours and begin attacking their ops. Perhaps even more so when the jackpot moves.

Robert Greenes (2002) publication ‘The Concise 48 Laws of Power’ explains that some play with power and lose it all by fatal mistake, whilst others make all the right moves and are able to draw power unto themselves “with an almost superhuman dexterity” (Greene, 2002).

Through considering and applying the rules of power, we can all understand power, and its properties and apply them to The Mafia Boss. By putting them into practice, noobs and vets alike can thrive in the Mafia World and have all fall unto their rule.

Let's apply this concept to contemporary TMB


Law 1- NEVER OUTSHINE THE MASTER

JUDGEMENT

“Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please and impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite'

- In relation to TMB, this rule refers to those you may respect or those you work for may very well become a ‘hater’ if you are not careful- outshining or if they feel intimidated in anyway this could harm your TMB play as you will inspire fear and insecurity.

-Make your Masters appear more brilliant than they are and you attain heights of power- if you exploit this rule you will end up with a TMB bullet- ‘a betrayal’ right between your eyes.

Enhancing someone's ego can only bring you good TMB fortune, well thats if you also show loyalty, many players are suspicious of Brown noses and bitches trying to manipulate for personal gain. TMB is full of vet players who have seen many tactics so be sure to demonstrate your power with precision.

Typically you must never outshine the Master due to human ego and psychology your once loyal friends can easily turn on you especially in an online format.

Law 2- NEVER PUT TOO MUCH TRUST IN FRIENDS, LEARN TO USE ENEMIES

JUDGEMENT

“Be wary of friends- they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused by envy. They also become spoiled and tyrannical. But hire a former enemy and he will be more loyal than a friend, because he/she has more to prove”.

Time and Time again we see this in TMB over the years, I am sure many of you can understand this, sometimes those you come to trust or deem your friends through game play or time spent chatting killing, collecting or looting can in fact and most shockingly can be the ones who turn on you or not realize the information they hand to an enemy you entrusted in them be detrimental to your game play.

Numerous times players can call on an old enemy to strengthen their cause because through wars you have gained respect from those you believe are your enemies- this can be a great source to re gain the power role you may feel you have lost or gain to seek.

So get this in your heads, friends can easily become enemies through envy and old enemies can have more respect through wars and can become powerful allies

Familiarity breeds Contempt this is in life and also very much so in the cold hearted matrix that is The Mafia Boss.

Law 3- CONCEAL YOUR INTENTIONS

JUDGEMENT

“Keep people off balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guiding your TMB enemies down the wrong path surrounded with smoke by the time they realize your intentions it will be too late. ''

Now I am not sure if I have personally used this strategy or not- or at least Id never admit to it! But I am 100% it has been used upon me many times. Yes I know there are some ‘smoke and mirror” players within the land of TMB who do use this pattern or tactic especially when it comes to the Jackpot this is in both Main and Turbo rounds- so be aware!!


When dealing with human psychology and real money you are dealing with the 7 deadly sins, and one must be aware that humans are capable of anything when it comes to greed and power. Online it is even more evident and more powerful as people can get away with their actions without real consequences (usually these are people with insecure issues and low morals) and what can be viewed as a low dog tactic to one person is just another way to win to another.


Law 4- ALWAYS SAY LESS THAN NECESSARY

JUDGEMENT

“When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common they appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying or explaining the truth of events people lose sight of what you are telling them through too much explanation- it becomes a ‘headache’ or you will or your dilemma be viewed as just ‘Drama’.

Moral of the story an I can pretty much say this through my own experience as well; Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. Also the more you say through Anger- could be over a rank or some kind of TMB Injustice the more you will appear as something foolish or just a weak cunt or as the males like to put the females on the ‘TMB Drama Queen’.

Alternatively being open in who you are can gain you love and respect, many TMB vets are recognized icons, their names and icons and what they represent during their time playing has created familiar identification with other players. In a community sense this is TMB media Icon ideology and this notion has its own unique discourse, which is one reason why The Mafia Boss has been so successful for over 15 years.

With this rule you take a chance in saying less going under the radar or becoming a recognized TMB icon. How other players respond to your strategy can be unpredictable.

Law 5- SO MUCH DEPENDS ON REPUTATION- GUARD IT WITH YOUR LIFE


JUDGEMENT

''Reputation is the cornerstone of power. Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win, once it slips, you leave yourself vulnerable to the upcoming or power hungry TMB player.''

Greene (2002) makes it very clear to make this rule and your reputation unassailable. Always be alert to potential attacks, many haters will actually set out to destroy your reputation in TMB and have the sheep follow and even at times fully believe, as they all grasp at anything to gain power for themselves- never underestimate even the weakest of your TMB enemies- Never assume any tactic will not be used.


Be aware even if you have known and trusted players for many years what you choose to disclose can be used against you, once again you are dealing with real human egos in an online arena that wins real money.





Not only do players feed off the role play addiction that motivates and electrifies their imaginations and egos on a character they have created. Killing, looting and collecting individually or in their team also is hard work so like in reality we create memories of experiences with others and how much effort and passion we use.

What we get fun out of, winning, striving for medals or reputation individually or as a team, What stimulates our brains formulates an addiction: The Mafia Boss is a unique game that demonstrates and electrifies the human mind that generates positive endorphins but is also in-depth with dark psychology, competitive game play, that will infuse your emotions and help you analyze and observe human behaviour.



As humans we are naturally tempted and in a need for power we can do or be victim to each other's emotional intelligence, self esteem issues, and self gain gratifications.

At the end of the day you can exit the Mafia Matrix, shoot your way out but you always will take with you the knowledge and experience of the TMB 5 Laws of Power.
