People vote because we elect panel of electors, just like we vote for other elected officials. You are aware that the popular vote in a Presidential election does not exist. I wish more states would actual list the names of the panel on the ballots. However, that will never happen because State election officials prefer to offer the illusion that the registered voter is actually voting for President.

This is totally true! A family member is hosting a Russian exchange student for the year and I am surprised, yet saddened at how much advanced she is in world affairs compared to her peers in the US. She understands the US political systems far better than many adults.
