I thought it would be a great idea to try to get in touch with one of the most annoying cunts to ever play the game but one of the most respected players on the game. I called Eck the other night hoping to maybe get in touch with him over the phone….

(Ringing) (Ringing) (Ringing)

Hello? (In a very rude and gruff tone).
Journalist- “Yes, Hi this is a journalist from TMB, Is Eck available?”
Unknown- “What the fuck do you want?”
“ I would like to interview one of the best players on the game, is there a way I can speak to him?”
Unknown- “Fuck Off!!” Click........Dial Tone……………

Well that was rude.....
Then I started thinking, what in the world is wrong with that guy? What has pissed him off, and others too, that some of the best players from some of the best unions/families, to be so upset and rude that they have to speak to others that way? This includes speaking to staff members, journalists, bloggers and other players alike. Are they so in-depth with themselves that they cannot be somewhat civil?

To put in in context, I decided to think about a few tv series that incorporate a gang type theme; Mafia, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Walking Dead, The Departed, Godfather 1/2/3, for example.

One of the most important themes in each of these movies or tv shows are the lead role, or lack of. The lead role is usually the boss in charge or someone who is just under the boss and showing how to earn their way to the top families. What makes them so great, what gives them the stature of being an asshole to others to get their own views across, why can’t they be nice? These are all questions that others will and probably have asked themselves on a daily basis.

In my opinion, I know a few bosses (from experience) that lead their families by treating everyone the same, being kind and loyal to playing by the rules. I know some who bend the rules to benefit themselves but one thing I’ve learned from all these bosses; they all do what they think is best for their families and put themselves after their family/union. You think about the interaction others have with each other and the communication that is needed to strive and do well in a dog-eat-dog world, one necessity is to lead others and improve each other’s weaknesses and focus on the strength that each person is able to focus on without being prompted.

Fast forward to this generation, I feel the last 100-200 rounds have gravitated towards a 21st century game vs a 20th century game of earn for the boss and do whatever you can for the family to get noticed by others and be a game changer that the family is looking for. Time and time again I see a lot of loyalist get taken back and feel less and less of a need to train others because we’ve gotten to the point where the game is so small and on such a different level than 300 rounds before. Is this a generational issue or is it a game issue?

For me, I would say it is a generational issue as others put themselves first before anyone else. I’m not saying everyone does that, yes; there are still some old timers and earners that have been around the game for quite some time… but the fact of the matter is, it’s much easier to rank or tier now than it ever has been. So the work ethic that you put towards a game like TMB is not on the same level as it used to be because of the people. It’s not about the game changes and storyline changes or rule changes; it’s the damn people.

There are less families in the game compared to many rounds ago, but the people that have remained dominate or somewhat well known, are those that have stuck around and played through the sticks amid all the changes the game have thrown at them, yet they remain true to their gameplay and always adapt.

Of course many players will whine and complain about the past, but the past is just that; the past. The future of TMB does not need that continuous negative insight to repeat history of what made TMB so great. The fact of the matter is, the people who are still around make it great; you just need to know where to find them.

To the new players that are just learning their way or trying to find their spot in the game. Please ask someone and be honest about your situation. If you are a new guy wanting your own place in the game, ask the bosses of each of the families and be honest that you are new and looking for somewhere to fit. But one key thing you need to remember; is go back to those movies I spoke about earlier. Some people are born to lead but not everyone is made for that role. Some people are here to be followers and need to take that role on the best they can.

If you are new, go back to those movies/tv shows and take notice to create a name for yourself by doing what you’re told and being loyal to earn for your family. The most important thing to do is find a way to earn yourself a spot on the game. Because let me tell you, this game can be fun; the most fun part of the entire game is the social interaction with others. Most players use skype or facebook to communicate what is going on in the game, when to bank up, when to loot, if they need a max, or who to kill and when.

That social interaction is key to communicating with others to find your spot. This is the most important part, in my opinion, to stay active and find your way. BUT PLEASE GET SKYPE in order to communicate with others; especially now since union boards are missing from the game for key families that have an nap or are actively working with one another to communicate with each other. Maybe our Local Admin can bring that aspect back for the social impact that it created with other families pre-unions. But whining and complaining on GRD definitely won't help your cause.

To the regular players, please make some time for the new players. Reach out and teach them how to get on skype; you don’t even need to download skype to get on and speak with others. You just need to sign up for it and you can use skype online to talk to others.

To the bosses, find some players in your families to recruit and continue to recruit new players. To take this game into what I want to call the 21st century or should I say from here on now; we need to go back to the old way of playing. Give each of these new players a job like we used to do, have them invite their friends or family players just like we used to do back in the day. Encourage them to stick around a little while longer to create more competition in the game to have others strike up the courage to take down a superpower like Pinoy, ICS, BH, IU/RU/LOCO, UC, IC, Capo. If I missed one I'm sorry but these are the families that routinely stick out to many of us.

Fast forward to the new way of playing. Looting seems to be the thing of the past with the recent changes in the game but it still makes being a level 1 or level 2 player worth it in terms of production and what you can do. Yes, level 4 costs and it is easier to go this route but if money is an object for you, you can resort to looting and spending a lot of time on the game for TOH's to equal the production of what a normal level 4 collector can bring in for your family. I see a lot of players whining and complaining about the lack of killing and how the rules don't amount to what they want but I see a select group of people that can adapt to just about anything as far as rule changes and incorporate their style of play to these changes. I'm not going to point fingers but you all know who you are.

Lastly, take the time to read this blog with an open mind. Provide insight with whatever you feel is best to speak and talk about. Let's make TMB Great Again! Please no game bashing or staff bashing following this blog. I will take the time to answer everyone's questions, comments, concerns or political correctness over into another blog in the near future.

Thank you for your time!
